Parent Testimonial
“I am delighted with the academic standards at Our Lady’s School and would not hesitate to recommend it to other parents”

School Newspaper - Angel's Echo - An interview with our Prep. IV Teacher, Mrs O’Reilly

1. Prep IV: What is your favourite group to teach?

I have taught many age groups in my teaching career – from six years old to eighteen years old. Each Year group brings it’s own rewards and challenges. But of course, my favourite at the moment has got to be your age group!

2. Prep IV: How long have you been teaching at Our Lady’s?

I started teaching here last January 2004 – almost a year ago. How time flies when you’re enjoying yourself! Last year’s Prep IV made me feel really welcome and they were a wonderful class to start off with.

3. Prep IV: Where were you teaching prior to Our Lady’s?

Prior to Our Lady’s I taught at two Schools in Wokingham. I taught mostly Year Sx age group but I also taught Years Three, Four and Five.

4. Prep IV: Mrs O’Reilly, you’ve told us that the class sizes you’ve taught in previous Schools were much bigger than the class sizes in our School. Can you tell us hoe this makes a difference to your teaching?

It makes an enormous difference – in smaller classes it is possible for a teacher to monitor daily the progress of each child. In a class of thirty children with a wide range of abilities, that is impossible.

Also, in the smaller size classes that we have at Our Lady’s, it is so much easier for the teacher to get to know the individual needs of each child and hence allow them to reach their potential at a faster rate.

5. Prep IV: Finally, what do you see as the main strengths of this School?

I can list many things, not necessarily in order of importance:

A genuine caring and nurturing environment where children feel secure, they grow in confidence and learn quickly.

Staff at Our Lady’s work incredibly hard; this hard work ethos filters through to the children. They in turn strive to achieve what their teachers and parents expect of them.

In this School parents are so supportive. I am always amazed at the huge turnout to so many fundraising events.

When parents and teachers work well together, the main benefactors are the children.

Last but not least, this is a Catholic School with solid moral values.

Prep IV: Thank you Mrs O’Reilly for allowing us to interview you.
