- Angel's Echo - Amy and Alex’s Interview with Mrs Robinson |
Amy and Alex were Prep IV children
at Our Lady’s in 2004/05. They were also Head Boy and
Head Girl respectively.
Below is an interview they conducted with Mrs Robinson who
is the Deputy Head, P.E and I.C.T Teacher at Our Lady’s.
Q: Mrs Robinson, you have a long association with Our Lady’s
School. Can you tell us about it?
A: I started at Our Lady’s when I was
4, the day Our Lady’s opened. I stayed until I was 11.
I then went to St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Reading.
When I was at Our Lady’s I was Head Girl and still have
the bible I was given when I left. Nineteen years ago I came
to work here. My three children also came here.
Q: Did your Mum Teach here?
A: She was first a netball teacher then eventually
she became Headmistress.
Q: You must see enormous changes in the School since
you started here as a child. Can you tell us what you consider
are the major changes?
A: First the house next door called Aldworth
was the nun’s house and one of their rooms was a classroom.
Then they bought the house called ‘Meadhurst’ and
made it into a School. A while later the Trustees bought another
house, next door, this one was called ‘The Ousels’
and joined them together by building a hall. A while later classrooms
were built on top of the hall. Also there were two playgrounds,
one for the girls and one for the boys. If you were naughty
you would get hit on the palm of your hand with a cane.
Q: In your opinion what makes Our Lady’s a special School.
A: The teachers in the School care about the
children that come to Our Lady’s and everyone is family
minded. The small classes allow everybody the opportunity to
develop skills and confidence in their own way.
Q: You now teach P.E. and I.C.T. which do you prefer?
A: I like them both the same but I.C.T is a
new challenge for me and I am really enjoying it. One of the
best aspects of my work here at Our Lady’s is that I get
to see all of the children every week from Early Years to Prep
IV. I get to know the children at three years of age and wave
goodbye to them at eleven.
Q: Finally, Mrs Robinson is there any special message
you’d like to give to the children at Our Lady’s?
A: The children should enjoy their time here
and realise that they will have many happy memories as I have.
I am still in touch with some of the friends I made here at
Our Lady’s and we often spend time reminiscing about our
time and experiences at Prep School. Take the message of friendship
and love along with you wherever you travel in life.
